About

Michinoku Pro Wrestling (MPW) is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion founded in 1993 by The Great Sasuke. Based in the Tohoku region, particularly Iwate Prefecture, the promotion became internationally known for its innovative junior heavyweight style.

Michinoku Pro was a pioneer of the lucha libre-influenced junior heavyweight style that would later become prominent in mainstream wrestling. The promotion produced influential wrestlers including The Great Sasuke, TAKA Michinoku, Jinsei Shinzaki (Hakushi), and the Super Delfin. Many alumni found success in WWF, WCW, and other major promotions.

The promotion gained American exposure through the ECW relationship and various tape trading networks. While smaller than in its 1990s peak, Michinoku Pro continues to operate and develop talent in the Tohoku region.
