Universal Wrestling Federation (Japan) was a pioneering Japanese shoot-style professional wrestling promotion founded in 1984 that helped create the modern shoot wrestling movement. UWF was founded by Akira Maeda and spawned multiple successor promotions including RINGS, UWFi, and Pancrase.
