Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre
Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), which translates to World Wrestling Council, is a Mexican professional wrestling promotion and the oldest wrestling promotion in the world still in operation, founded on September 21, 1933, by Salvador Lutteroth.
Originally known as Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre (EMLL), the promotion changed its name to CMLL in 1991. CMLL is based at Arena México in Mexico City, known as the "Cathedral of Lucha Libre," which serves as its primary venue.
CMLL has been home to legendary luchadores including El Santo, Blue Demon, Mil Máscaras, Rey Mysterio Sr., Negro Casas, Atlantis, Dr. Wagner Jr., and Místico. The promotion is known for its mask vs. mask matches, hair vs. hair matches, and the importance of técnicos (fan favorites) versus rudos (villains) dynamics in lucha libre. CMLL's major annual events include the CMLL Anniversary Show (the longest-running annual wrestling event in the world), International Gran Prix, and Homenaje a Dos Leyendas.
