All Japan Pro Wrestling
All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) is a Japanese professional wrestling promotion founded on October 21, 1972, by Giant Baba after he split from the Japan Pro Wrestling Alliance.
AJPW became one of the premier wrestling promotions in Japan during the 1970s-1990s, known for its King's Road style of wrestling featuring long, dramatic matches with intense near-falls. The promotion produced legendary wrestlers including Giant Baba, Jumbo Tsuruta, Genichiro Tenryu, Stan Hansen, Mitsuharu Misawa, Toshiaki Kawada, Kenta Kobashi, and Akira Taue (the Four Pillars of Heaven).
The promotion suffered a major exodus in 2000 when Mitsuharu Misawa and most of the roster left to form Pro Wrestling NOAH. AJPW rebuilt under new leadership and continues to operate today, maintaining its legacy of technical excellence. Major events include the Champion Carnival tournament and their annual Budokan Hall shows.
