About

Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling (FMW) was a Japanese professional wrestling promotion founded in 1989 by Atsushi Onita. FMW was a pioneer of hardcore wrestling in Japan, featuring death matches with barbed wire, fire, explosives, and other extreme elements.

The promotion became famous for its exploding barbed wire death matches, with Onita as the central figure. FMW also featured a women's division with stars like Combat Toyoda, Megumi Kudo, and Shark Tsuchiya. Despite the hardcore reputation, FMW also presented traditional wrestling matches.

FMW struggled financially after Onita's departure and ultimately closed in 2002 following the death of owner Shoichi Arai. The promotion's influence on hardcore wrestling extended globally, inspiring ECW and other extreme wrestling promotions. Several attempts to revive the FMW brand have occurred over the years.
