WCW World Heavyweight Championship
The WCW World Heavyweight Championship was a professional wrestling singles title established on January 11, 1991, by World Championship Wrestling (WCW). It served as the promotion's original world title, spun off from the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, and was considered the most prestigious and prized title in WCW throughout its existence from 1991 to 2001. Ric Flair was the first holder of the championship, and the title was represented by the historic Big Gold Belt, first introduced in 1986.
Following WWF's acquisition of WCW in March 2001, the title became one of two world championships in the WWF, with its name shortened first to the WCW Championship and later to the World Championship in November of that year. It operated alongside the WWF Championship until both titles were unified to create the Undisputed WWF Championship on December 9, 2001, at Vengeance. Chris Jericho holds the distinction of being the last champion to hold the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.
