Biography
Lawrence Robert Shreve (born January 11, 1941) is a Canadian retired professional wrestler better known by the ring name Abdullah the Butcher. Raised in Windsor, Ontario, in a deeply impoverished household of ten, his mother was an African-American from Michigan and his father was a member of the Native American Blackfoot tribe. He learned karate and judo as a youth and claims to have eventually earned the title of seventh-degree grandmaster. After catching the attention of Montreal promoter Jack Britton, Shreve began training as a professional wrestler at age 17 in 1958, making his official debut on June 2, 1966.
Throughout his career, Shreve became known for involvement in some of the most violent and bloody hardcore matches in professional wrestling history, earning the moniker "Madman from Sudan." He competed under various aliases, including Kuroi Jujutsushi and Zelis Amara, before establishing the Abdullah the Butcher character. A trademark of his appearance is a series of deep, divot-like scars on his head resulting from excessive blading during his career. He retired in 2010.
