Biography

Pat Patterson, born Pierre Clermont on January 19, 1941, was a Canadian-American professional wrestler and producer who became one of the most influential figures in professional wrestling history. Trained by Loisirs Saint Jean Baptiste, he began his professional wrestling career in 1958, competing under names including Lord Patrick Patterson and Pat Andrews before settling on the ring name Pat Patterson, with his in-character persona billed from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Patterson is recognized by WWE as their first Intercontinental Champion and is credited as the creator of the Royal Rumble match. He was inducted into the WWF Hall of Fame as part of the class of 1996. Beyond his in-ring career, he served the company for decades as a creative consultant, producer, and agent, retiring in 2000. Journalist Dave Meltzer described him as "Vince McMahon's right-hand man" and "one of the chief architects of the WWE, playing an integral role in helping it become a global phenomenon."

In 2019, at age 78, Patterson made history by becoming the oldest person to win a title in WWE history when he captured the WWE 24/7 Championship. He passed away on December 2, 2020.
