Biography
Randy Mario Poffo (November 15, 1952 – May 20, 2011), better known as "Macho Man" Randy Savage, was an American professional wrestler, rapper, and professional baseball player. Trained by Angelo Poffo, he began his professional wrestling career in 1973 and went on to become widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. He is best known for his work in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where he was billed from Sarasota, Florida.
Savage was instantly recognizable to fans for his flamboyant ring attire, raspy voice, intense in-ring presence, use of Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1" as entrance music, and his signature catchphrase, "Oooh yeah!" For much of his time in the WWF and WCW, he was managed by his real-life wife, Miss Elizabeth. Sportswriter Bill Simmons described him as "one of the greatest pro wrestlers who ever lived," a sentiment echoed throughout the industry.
Over his 32-year career, Savage accumulated ten world championship reigns, including two as WWF World Heavyweight Champion and four as WCW World Heavyweight Champion. He also held the WWF Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship and was named by WWE as the greatest titleholder of that title. He headlined numerous major events, including WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V, and was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
