World Championship Wrestling
World Championship Wrestling (WCW) was an American professional wrestling promotion that operated from 1988 to 2001. Originally formed from the assets of Jim Crockett Promotions, WCW was owned by Turner Broadcasting System and became WWE's primary competitor in the 1990s.
WCW is best known for the Monday Night Wars, a fierce ratings competition between WCW Monday Nitro and WWF Monday Night Raw from 1995 to 2001. Under the leadership of Eric Bischoff, WCW introduced the New World Order (nWo) faction featuring Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and Scott Hall, which revolutionized wrestling storytelling and made WCW the ratings leader for 83 consecutive weeks.
WCW was home to legendary talent including Ric Flair, Sting, Goldberg, Diamond Dallas Page, Booker T, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Rey Mysterio, and the cruiserweight division. The promotion was purchased by WWE in March 2001 for approximately $3 million after financial losses and creative decline. The WCW brand was retired following the Invasion storyline.
