WWE Intercontinental Championship
The WWE Intercontinental Championship is a men's professional wrestling title created and promoted by WWE, currently defended on the Raw brand. It was established on September 1, 1979, by the then-World Wrestling Federation (WWF), formed through the unification of the WWF North American Heavyweight Championship with an apocryphal South American Heavyweight Championship. Pat Patterson served as the inaugural champion. It stands as the third-oldest championship currently active in WWE, behind the WWE Championship and the United States Championship, and is considered one of two secondary male championships on WWE's main roster alongside the WWE United States Championship on SmackDown.
Throughout its history, the Intercontinental Championship has been unified with several other titles, including the WCW United States Championship in 2001 and the European and Hardcore championships in 2002. Following the introduction of WWE's brand split in 2002, the title became exclusive to Raw, a status reaffirmed by the 2023 WWE Draft. The current champion is Penta, who captured the title in his first reign by defeating Dominik Mysterio on the March 2, 2026, episode of Raw.
