About

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is an American professional wrestling promotion founded in 1953 as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation (CWC), a Northeastern territory of the National Wrestling Alliance. Following booking disputes, the CWC left the NWA and rebranded as the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF) in April 1963. After rejoining the NWA in 1971, the promotion was renamed the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1979, before being acquired by Titan Sports in 1982. A trademark dispute with the World Wildlife Fund prompted a final rename to World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002, with the promotion later adopting WWE as its sole branding in 2011. Headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, WWE is owned and operated by TKO Group Holdings.

WWE is the largest wrestling promotion in the world, marketing its product as "sports entertainment" and operating two primary touring brands, Raw and SmackDown. Beyond wrestling, the company has expanded into film, football, licensing, and other ventures. Its programming reaches more than one billion homes worldwide in 30 languages, with developmental brands NXT and Evolve based at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
