Biography
Richard Morgan Fliehr, born on February 25, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee, is an American retired professional wrestler known worldwide as Ric Flair. Adopted by Kathleen and Richard Reid Fliehr, he grew up in Minnesota before eventually making Charlotte, North Carolina his home. Trained by Verne Gagne, Flair debuted in 1972 and went on to build a career spanning fifty years, retiring in 2022. Since the mid-1970s, he has operated under the moniker "the Nature Boy," and as of November 2023 holds a legends role with All Elite Wrestling for special appearances.
Regarded by peers and journalists alike as the greatest professional wrestler of all time, Flair is recognized by WWE as a 16-time world champion, though the most agreed-upon number of his total championship reigns is 21. He competed prominently for Jim Crockett Promotions under the NWA, WCW, WWF/WWE, and TNA. He headlined Starrcade on ten occasions and co-headlined WrestleMania in 1992 after winning that year's Royal Rumble.
Flair's accolades are extensive. Pro Wrestling Illustrated named him Wrestler of the Year a record six times, while the Wrestling Observer Newsletter bestowed the same honor a record eight times. He is a two-time WWE Hall of Fame inductee, first as an individual in 2008 and again in 2012 as a member of The Four Horsemen.
