Biography
John Felix Anthony Cena was born on April 23, 1977, and is an American professional wrestler, actor, and former rapper. He began his professional wrestling career in 1999 and signed with the World Wrestling Federation in 2001, initially developing his skills in the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental territory. After debuting on WWE SmackDown! in 2002, Cena first gained attention as a brash heel rapper before evolving into the company's franchise player from the mid-2000s through the mid-2010s. He wrestled on a part-time schedule from 2017 until his retirement in 2025, with his portrayal of a heroic character from 2003 to 2025 standing as the longest continuous such run in WWE history.
Over his 24-year WWE career, Cena became a record-setting 17-time world champion, holding the WWE Championship a record 14 times and the World Heavyweight Championship three times, among numerous other titles and accolades. He won the Royal Rumble twice and headlined multiple major pay-per-view events. Beyond wrestling, Cena launched an acting career in 2006 and received praise for roles in films such as Trainwreck and The Suicide Squad, as well as the superhero series Peacemaker. He is also renowned for granting more than 650 Make-A-Wish Foundation wishes, the most in the organization's history.
