Biography

Dwayne Douglas Johnson, born May 2, 1972, in Miami, Florida, is a professional wrestler and actor best known by his ring name The Rock. Trained by Pat Patterson, Rocky Johnson, and Tom Prichard, Johnson made his professional wrestling debut in 1996 after a brief football career that included time with the Calgary Stampeders following his going undrafted in the 1995 NFL draft. He had previously attended the University of Miami on an athletic scholarship, where he was a member of the 1991 national championship football team.

Johnson quickly rose to prominence in the World Wrestling Federation during the Attitude Era, becoming widely regarded as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. Over his full-time career he accumulated an impressive championship record, including ten world title reigns, making him the promotion's first world champion of African descent. He also holds two Intercontinental Championship reigns, five Tag Team Championship reigns, and won the 2000 Royal Rumble. He headlined WrestleMania six times and is WWE's sixth Triple Crown champion.

After departing WWE in 2004, Johnson transitioned into acting. His film debut came in The Mummy Returns in 2001, and he has since appeared in numerous major productions. His films have grossed over $11.4 billion worldwide, establishing him as one of the highest-grossing actors of all time.
